How Will You Return?

Rest was never meant to prepare you to return to the same unhealthy routines, mindsets, and pressures you left behind.

Throughout July, Coach Paul has walked through four important stages: Refresh, Reframe, Replenish, and Return. In this final episode of the series, he challenges listeners to examine how they are returning to their homes, businesses, ministries, and everyday responsibilities.

Are you returning to the same grind—or are you returning with greater clarity, stronger alignment, and a renewed sense of assignment?

Time away with God should change how you think, move, lead, and build. Moses returned from the mountain visibly different. Jesus consistently withdrew to pray and returned prepared for what was next. Elijah’s restoration changed his perspective and prepared him to continue his assignment.

Your return should carry evidence of what God developed in you while you were away.

In This Episode

Coach Paul discusses:

  • Why rest should produce transformation, not just temporary relief
  • The danger of returning to the same lifestyle you needed a break from
  • How preparation creates the freedom to truly disconnect
  • Why your return can be greater than your departure
  • The connection between personal rhythm and leadership
  • How renewed alignment affects your home, business, ministry, and relationships
  • Three practical decisions that can help you return differently

Three Ways to Return Differently

1. Leave Some Things Behind

Not everything from your previous season deserves to come with you.

It may be time to release:

  • Relationships that continually drain your assignment
  • Conversations that add confusion instead of clarity
  • Systems or frameworks that no longer work
  • Habits that keep you overwhelmed
  • Mindsets that no longer serve the person God is developing

Rest gives you enough distance to recognize what has been weighing you down.

2. Pick Up Something New

Returning differently is not only about releasing old things. It is also about adopting healthier rhythms.

That may include:

  • Reading a new book
  • Starting a hobby
  • Spending more time in prayer
  • Studying God’s Word
  • Reducing time on social media
  • Creating stronger personal boundaries
  • Establishing a new routine

The right new rhythm can bring value to your life and to everyone you lead.

3. Obey What God Is Telling You

Sometimes you do not need another podcast, conference, book, or motivational message.

You already know what God has instructed you to do.

The next step is obedience.

Return ready to act on the clarity you received during your refreshing, reframing, and replenishing seasons.

Key Takeaways

  • Do not return to the same lifestyle that caused you to need the break.
  • Rest should change your rhythm, not merely interrupt it.
  • Preparation allows you to disconnect without guilt or anxiety.
  • Your return should carry greater clarity, peace, and purpose.
  • What God develops in private is often intended to serve others publicly.
  • When leaders become healthier, the environments around them begin to change.
  • Your return can be greater than your departure because you return equipped.

Scriptures Connected to This Message

  • Exodus 34:29–35 — Moses returns from meeting with God, and his face reflects the encounter.
  • 1 Kings 19:4–18 — God refreshes, restores, and redirects Elijah.
  • Luke 5:16 — Jesus regularly withdraws to solitary places to pray.
  • Luke 9:28–36 — Jesus is transfigured while praying on the mountain.
  • Romans 12:2 — Transformation happens through the renewing of the mind.
  • John 20:19–29 — Jesus returns after the resurrection with victory, authority, and purpose.

Reflection Questions

  1. What are you returning to in this season?
  2. Are you returning to the same grind or to a healthier rhythm?
  3. What mindset, habit, relationship, or responsibility needs to remain behind?
  4. What new practice would add value to your life?
  5. What has God already told you to do?
  6. What should look different because you took time to rest?
  7. How will your renewed rhythm affect the people you lead?

Coach Paul’s Challenge

Go back and listen to the full July series:

  1. Refresh
  2. Reframe
  3. Replenish
  4. Return

Then ask yourself:

How will I return?

Do not return as the same person who left. Return rested, aligned, equipped, and ready to walk out what God revealed.

Over the last few weeks, we've been talking about refresh, reframe, and replenish. And now this week, we're heading into return. When you hear that word return, what comes to mind? Is it returning back to the grind that you were in before, the thing that you totally hated? Because let's be honest, if you're listening to this podcast and you just go back to the same lifestyle that you began with, then nothing's changed. Every call to action is void. But here's the thing: here's where God wants to bless you today. I truly believe this because He's blessed me as well through it all. How will you return to your ordinary life that God has called you to only to be extraordinary? In today's episode, we're going to be talking about all of this and more. Let's go. Welcome to Build for Confidence, the podcast where kingdom builders rebuild identity, sharpen clarity, and lead with conviction. I am your host, Coach Paul Ibarra, and every week we're cutting through the noise to help you stop second guessing, start deciding, and build with confidence right where God has placed you. So listen, drop a review, drop a comment, hit that like, subscribe, all the things, and let's get started. So let's talk return. When I think about the word return, sometimes it's a place of taking a vacation. Tell me if I'm wrong, but there are times when you're on vacation, and right about the second to the last day, you're like, ugh, now we got to return back to our jobs. It's time to return back to the grind. It's time to return back to the thing, right? But in today's episode, I want to talk to you about returning to the plan God gave you in your places of refresh, reframe, and replenish. All right. So, here it is. Return to the one who created you. Return to the one who knows more about your life than you know about yourself. It's not simply about let me take a rest, let me get some new perspective, and let me just return back to the same lifestyle. No, each time you take a sabbatical and catch your breath, guess what? If you're aware, you begin to see things differently. You begin to move and act and walk differently. Why? Because you felt that peace on vacation or that retreat. Whatever that might be, you don't return back the same person. You return with a higher level of assignment simply because you've spent more time replenishing, reframing, and refreshing your mind with God. Just thinking about my replenishment week that I had with my wife. Right? I didn't touch a laptop for seven days. And to be honest, it didn't affect me at all. I wasn't going through withdrawals, but here's why. Because in my reframe week or season, I plan and prepared weeks prior. So when I had that time off, I'm spending it with family. I'm not worried about the lab. I'm not worried about content creation. Why? Because it's already been scheduled out. And if I don't show up for you properly, that means I'm doing you and me a disservice because I believe that I'm called to help people rebuild their life. And that's where Built for Confidence comes in. Okay? So today is all about the return. But how will you return? Are you going to return back to the grind? Or are you going to return back with something new? And this is why it's imperative that when you return from your retreats, your hiatus, your Sabbath, your replenishment seasons, your reframe seasons, your refreshing seasons, all the seasons, that you don't return back the same person you left. So let's look at the story of Moses when he went up to the mountain. He came back glowing. He came back different. He came back pure and white as snow when Jesus took the cross, died on the cross, and did what he was supposed to do. When he returned, he wasn't just brought back to life. He was resurrected in a completely different form. Every time he would go to the mountain, he would come back different. Why? Because he was sabbatically praying and spending time with the Father. And this is why it's imperative that as you return from wherever you're coming from, you return a different person. You return to the Father every day. And I'm speaking to myself when I say this too, because as a business owner, a coach, and an influencer, sometimes I get caught up in the trap of, oh my gosh, I got to do all this stuff and all the things. But God wants you to understand something today. Your return is greater than your departure. Why? Because you're coming back equipped with something valuable that God wants to put in your life for other people as well. So I'm going to give you three ways that you can return in a different way. Are you ready? Number one, let go of the things that don't add value to your season. That may be some people. That may be some frameworks. That may be some conversations. Let go of the old mindsets that don't serve you anymore as well. Go read a book. Tap into God's word. Pray. Find the rhythm that you need to return properly. Right? So point number one is basically leave some stuff behind. Point number two, pick up some new things. The new things that are going to add value to your life and for those around you. It might be a hobby. We talked about this last week. We talked about a sabbatical from social media. We talked about less is truly being more. And I gave you proof of that. So if you haven't listened to that episode, head on back. Go see what God is doing through it. But seriously, pick up a book, a hobby, whatever that is. And number three, do everything God is telling you to do as you return. You know, sometimes you don't even have to listen to a podcast to get that word. Just tap into what God is telling you to do. All right? Because everything that I'm talking about has to do with you. Because when you get better alignment and rhythm, guess what? Everything and everyone around you falls into that same rhythm. Why? Because you are the leader in your home, your business, your ministry, and your leadership. So once again, I want you to really look at this last month. Go back and listen to the whole month of July. We talked about refresh. We talked about God refreshing Elijah. We talked about reframing how God had to help him reframe his mindset. But see, all of this as well is part of the applicable word of God that you can actually participate in. And here's the truth: you don't have to be a believer to really believe the principles that are in the Bible. Now I know there's a lot of Christians out there right now that are like, that's blasphemy. Listen, the word of God is principles on how to live your life properly. What you do with your salvation is between you and God. That has nothing to do with me. My assignment is to help you understand the principles that God has for your life. And I pray that hopefully along this journey that you come to Christ and you say, you know what? I'm giving it all to you because I'm tired of spending my wills. I'm tired of not being confident. I'm tired of being tired. That's what the Build for Confidence podcast is all about. So listen, I want to encourage you today, again, go back and listen to refresh, reframe, replenish, and return. But my question for you today, again, is how will you return? If you take that break, if you take that sabbatical, how are you going to return? Are you going to return the same person? Or are you going to return somebody who has a little bit more value? And that's what rest does for you. So if you need somebody that's going to help you reframe that mindset and get you on the right path, I want you to reach out to me. The link is down below. You get a free complimentary session with me. Let's go over your life. Let's go over your business.
