S 3 E 7 Reframe — Elijah Series, Week 2

Ever tried to shift into a new direction in your business, but everything you attempted in your own strength just didn't work? This week we're back in the story of Elijah, watching God do something Elijah never expected — not rebuke him, but reframe him.

Last week we saw God refresh Elijah. This week, God takes him from the cave to a conversation that changes everything.

Ever been in a space in business where you felt like you needed to shift into a new direction? But everything you tried to do out of your own strength just didn't work? In today's episode, I'm gonna show you how God helps you reframe your mindset. We're gonna be going through the same story that we were reading last week, the story of Elijah. In this episode, we're gonna see how God shifts Elijah's mindset. He takes him to a cave and has a conversation with him, only to bring him to the place of going back to the very place that he fled from. So let's go. Welcome to Build for Confidence, the podcast where kingdom builders rebuild identity, sharpen clarity, and lead with conviction. I am your host, Coach Paul Ibarra, and every week we're cutting through the noise to help you stop second guessing, start deciding, and build with confidence right where God has placed you. So when we look at this whole entire story, we see a story of vigor, a story of pain, a story of depression, and a story of sadness. And in this moment, this is verse 9, it says, and there he went into a cave. In your business, there are times and seasons when you feel like just hiding yourself in a cave. You feel like the cave is a place where you can hide and be sheltered from everyone around, and you call it the office. And sometimes that office can become your hindrance. So back to the story about Elijah. So Elijah thought he was in this sheltered place, but in fact, it was really a place that God led him in order to speak to him, not in isolation, but in seclusion, to get him away from everything that had led him to that place. So in your business, in this moment for you right now, you may be in a place where you feel like you're running only to realize in the heat of the moment that God is leading you to a place away from the noise, away from the chatter, and away from those messages being sent at the very time you feel you should be vigorous. And so he spent the night in that place. This is still verse 9. And behold, the word of the Lord came to him and said to him, What are you doing here, Elijah? Have you ever had that moment with God where he said, What are you doing here, Paul? Now let me reframe this for us because that's what we're talking about this week. God didn't lead him to that cave. God said, Your journey is going to be 40 days and 40 nights. He had to replenish him in that space, which is what we're going to be talking about next week. So I don't want to give you too much on replenishment, but the cave is the place where Elijah decided to stay in. There are times in your business when God will not give you a clear instruction. He'll lead you to a place, then it's your decision to get to the next place. He has fed Elijah. He has given him the tools. He has given him the insight, and he gave him the word to head back out on that journey. So now Elijah is in a place where God is saying, Elijah, what are you doing here? Kind of sounds like Adam, right? When God was like looking for Adam and said, Adam, where are you? As if God didn't know where Adam was. What he was really asking Adam, and he's asking Elijah, is this what got you to this place? What got you here in your mindset? And I believe that's the same thing God was speaking to Elijah. He's speaking to you, he's speaking to me. And he may be speaking to us in this same season. What are you doing here? I've been there. That place where you've been spinning your wheels. What are you doing here? The place you've been in where you've been working so hard, only to find out you've come to a place of exhaustion. What are you doing here? It's that same question that rings in our soul, that rings in our ears sometimes. Those frameworks we try to follow, those programs we buy into, those cohorts we step into, whatever that may be, God may be saying to you today, What are you doing here? So here's Elijah's response. I have been very zealous for the Lord, God of hosts, for the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, torn down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they seek to take my life. In this moment, Elijah feels as if he's the only one out there doing the thing. He's the only one doing what God has called him to do. He's the only one who is zealous. But here's what I found through studying the story. And I can't go real deep into detail simply because it's a podcast and I want you to get the meat. All right. But in that timeline, if you grab a chronological Bible, Elijah was in the midst of many other prophets. They're just not named at this point. Because if we were to dive into every single name and prophet, we wouldn't have the space and we get on this crazy journey of trying to find out names and timelines and all the things. But do yourself a favor and go study that. Go really dig into that for yourself because this is where God wants to take you deeper. And I want you to really dive into that. All right. And this comes back to the business concept. Sometimes you feel like you're the only one out there doing the thing that God has called you to do. And yes, you're in your lane. We've talked about that last month about FOMO. Stop trying to step into someone else's lane. But here's the thing: there are other people out there with an assignment that's close to yours. There are other people out there doing the work. Sometimes you may feel like you're the only one carrying an assignment that's heavy. You're not the only one. There are many other people in business right now who are frustrated, who can't seem to gain traction. But here's what separates those who are committed from those who are running. Are you ready? Here it is. Focus. It's focusing and reframing your mindset because in the busiest week, the busiest month, the busiest season, you too can be out of alignment simply because you're not pausing to see what God is doing. And I'll be honest, this week, as I'm batching these episodes, has been a very tight week. Recording this today is tight. Last week was a very heavy week. A lot of things were happening in the body of Christ and people that I'm connected to. A lot of craziness was going on. So this week has really truly been full. I could have easily said, you know what? I'm over here doing all these podcasts, no one's listening, no one's doing what I'm doing. But that is also a form of pride. And when I had to pause for a minute, because there were times I was saying, God, if I could just get through this week. And I think you've been there as well at some point. I can't be the only one. But see, here's what I did. I had to pause and step back and say, let me reframe the way I'm saying things. Because our ears will lead us into wrong places. So what I did was I prioritized what was important in the moment and what's important for the assignment that God has given me. And some of those things are my health, my family, my livelihood, my mindset, my peace, and the joy that comes from fulfilling the assignment God has on my life. And this is where everything changes. Everything will shift when you stop looking at it as if I could just get through this season and instead reframe your mindset to ask, what is the priority in this season? You just may have to let go of some things that you've stepped into because everything else can go away, right? So we're going to continue to read verse 11. Then he said, Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord. And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord. But the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind, an earthquake. But the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake, a fire. But the Lord wasn't in the fire. And after the fire, a still small voice. So it was when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him and said, What are you doing here, Elijah? Funny how that phrase has come back, right? Funny how that conversation still comes in the same tone. What are you doing here, Elijah? Remember, it's a still small voice. Elijah still didn't get it. Elijah was still in his own self, still in his own flesh. And here's what he answers. I have been very zealous for the Lord, God of hosts, because the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, torn down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they seek to take my life. This is the same conversation over and over again. Twice the same question, twice the same response. He still didn't get it in the moment. Now watch what God says in verse 15. Then the Lord said to him, Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus, and when you arrive, anoint Hazazel as king over Syria. Also, you shall anoint Jehu, the son of Nish Nishmi, as king over Israel, and Elijah the son of Shapheth of Abel. Mahola you shall anoint as prophet in your place. This is God telling them, I'm preparing someone else to take the mantle. Now God is not one who is going to kill you for this, right? He's simply saying, I can replace you. Your job is done. This is the end of your road. And verse 17 says, It shall be whoever escapes the sword of Hezeel, Jehu will kill. And whoever escapes the sword of Jehu, Elisha will kill. Yet I have reserved seven thousand in Israel, all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him. What is the same for you and I today? What is it saying for your business? Verse 18 ties it up. Yet I have reserved seven thousand in Israel, all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal. What's God saying? This is twice. He's saying, just because of what you don't see, don't worry about any of that. Because there are things that I'm doing behind the scenes that you have no clue about. You see, Elijah didn't consult with God in his depression, his pain. He just ran. You see, God was already preparing someone to take his place, and God is already preparing something else for you to step into for your business, for your lifestyle, for your livelihood, and for your family. All the depression that you've gone through, all the pain that you've gone through, all your will spinning. Maybe it's because you haven't consulted God. And God won't speak to you if you're not there with an ear open to hear. This is why God is asking him, What are you doing here? I never asked you to come here, but I need you to go on another journey because you have to anoint the next person who's in alignment with the calling and the assignment I've placed on your life. You are not the only one who is carrying this legacy. There are other people around you that I want to use. So, this is for my business owner out there right now, who has come to understand this. Your mission is not only about you, it's about the successors who come in behind you, those who are going to carry the mantle with you. Now, watch this. Isn't it funny how he covered himself with his own mantle, but it's that same mantle he later throws onto Elisha? Now that's a whole different story, but I want us to understand this is the place where God had Elijah. He gave him the word and said, This is what you're doing. And Elijah had to reframe. He had to reframe his mindset. He had to be open to see everything God had for him. Because as we read on into verse 19, it says, So he departed from there and found Elisha. This is where his mindset was reframed. In that moment, in that conversation with God, there was a reframing. And this is where the reframing has to come into your life. Because when you're able to reframe and see clearly once God has spoken, that's where everything changes. But you have to consult with God. No matter the pressure, no matter the depression, no matter how much you want to isolate, you have to get clear with God so that He can get clear with you.
