In this episode of Built for Confidence, Coach Paul Ybarra dives into a single, powerful verse from the Book of Proverbs to start the week of April 6th. He explores how God’s commandments and instructions act as both a guiding light in the darkness and the essential "guardrails" that keep our lives and businesses in alignment. If you’ve been feeling second-guessed or out of alignment, this conversation will help you tap into the confidence that is already inside you by getting real with God's structure for your life.

Key Highlights

  • The Anatomy of a Lamp: Paul breaks down Proverbs 6:23, explaining that the commandment is the "lamp"—the structure that holds everything together—while the law is the "light" that illuminates the good, the bad, and the ugly in our lives.
  • Life’s Guardrails: Using the imagery of driving through the Rockies, Paul discusses how the "reproofs of instruction" act as guardrails. They tell us the truth about where we are and keep us from going off the path.
  • Confidence from the Inside Out: Confidence isn't something you have to build through outward "muscle" alone; like faith, it is already within you. It is accessed by following the path God has set and embracing His plan and purpose.
  • From Darkness to Clarity: Paul shares a brief reflection on his own journey from a dark place where he lacked confidence because he wasn't following instructions, to finding clarity through God's word.

Scripture Reference

"For the commandment is a lamp and the law a light, reproof of instruction are the way of life."Proverbs 6:23

Welcome to Build for Confidence, the podcast where kingdom builders rebuild identity, sharpen clarity, and lead with conviction. I am your host, Coach Paul Ibarra, and every week we're cutting through the noise to help you stop second guessing, start deciding, and build with confidence right where God has placed you. So listen, drop a review, drop a comment, hit that like, subscribe, all the things, and let's get started. There's something about this verse that really stood out to me this morning as I was getting things together, sipping my coffee, waking up on this awesome Monday morning. And I'm like, you know what? Let me just let's do that one verse instead of a few. And it says, For the commandment is a lamp and the law a light. Reproof of instruction are the way of life. I started looking at that and I was gonna keep moving. I was like, wait a minute, let me let me park here for a minute. For the commandment is a lamp. When I started to think about that, I'm like, okay, the commandment is a lamp. A lamp is something that holds fire, it holds the oil, it holds the wick, it holds everything. It's it's the lamp that holds everything together. So how is that a commandment? And then the law of light. The way I saw it, and I wanted to share with you today, is that the commandment is a lamp. That means everything that structures for your life, everything that is in a good space for your life, everything that God has for you is the commandment, and it's all tied together, everything on the inside. Now, from the commandment, when it's lit and it does its job, guess what? Now the flame, the light, is able to illuminate the commandments in your life so that you can see what's good, bad, and the ugly. And I think that's amazing simply because it says reproofs of instructions are the way of life. This is what keeps us alive. Let's just break it down this way. If you're like me and you're in Colorado, there's anybody listening from Colorado, or you've ever been in the Rockies, or you've ever been driving along a cliff. What do they have there typically? They have guardrails. Those guardrails are going to tell the truth when you're out of alignment. It's gonna tell you they're gonna tell you the truth when your car gets out of aligned, right? Of the road, and then you go and hit a guardrail or you come close to it. It reveals the truth of where you are. And so when we look at this, when I look at this, I'm like, that's so true. The reproof the reproofs of instruction are the way of life. For all of us parents out there, what do we tell our kids? I'm in giving you instruction. And if you listen to this instruction, and not only listen, but do what the commandment in the instruction says, then you'll be holding up the the law, right? So it's the it's it's the same with this scripture, and I'm not gonna go real long, but I want us to really think about that. What are those guardrails that we have in our life? What are the guardrails that may not be there? Which means boundaries, which means keeping things together. What if you don't have those? So I want you to really think about that this morning and say, okay, are there guard guardrails on my life at the commandment? Are there areas of my life that I'm maybe just a little bit off path and I'm about to smack into the wall? These are questions that I think we can all ask. And this is what is going to help the confidence piece of your life. Because there was a time in my life where I wasn't confident, I wasn't following instruction, and I was in a dark place. I was in a place that even one little candle wick would have brought a whole lot of light into my situation, and that's what happened. Now you've heard me share my testimony. It's those days that when we give our hearts to Christ and we know that he has a plan and a purpose. We know without a shadow of a doubt if I follow that path, I think I'm gonna be okay. I know it sounds like an altar call today to podcast, but you know what? That's okay because God's been dealing with me. The only way that you're gonna build your confidence because it's on the inside. It's like you don't have to work outwardly for muscle. You start with your eating, your muscles are already there, your faith is already there. The same with your confidence, it's already there. We just have to tap into it. And how do we tap into it? Getting real with God and looking and saying, okay, what are your commandments on my life today? How do I go about fulfilling all the things that you want me to do? So that's all I got for you today.
