Welcome to Season 2, Episode 1 of the Built for Confidence podcast! I am your host, Coach Paul Ybarra, and I am so fired up to kick off this new season with you. This is the place where we, as kingdom builders, rebuild identity, sharpen our clarity, and lead with conviction.

I’ve made a decision to go deeper this month into the things God has called me to share so that I can help instruct and build you as you lead right where God has placed you. We are diving straight into the wisdom of Proverbs 1:1-7 to break down what it actually means to build with the confidence of God.

Deep Dive: The Pillars of Kingdom Wisdom

In this episode, I’m digging into three specific words from the scripture that will transform your leadership and your life:

  • Perceive (biyn): This isn't just about hearing; it’s about discerning, distinguishing, and understanding deeply. I used to think perception was just my own take on things, but it’s actually about separating God's truth from the noise and distractions of life. Most of us miss the truth not because it’s hidden, but because we don’t slow down enough to "chew" on the Word and let the Holy Spirit sharpen our awareness.
  • Prudence (ormah): I want to talk to my business owners here. Prudence is wise strategy and foresight. It’s the ability to think ahead so you don’t lose traction when the initial "fire" of a project fades out. It prevents you from making permanent decisions based on temporary circumstances. Prudence asks: "Where does this lead me, and is this aligned with who I am becoming?".
  • Enigma (hadah): These are the riddles or hidden truths of God that require effort to understand. If you want to develop depth and train your mind for complexity, you have to pursue the "why" behind what you are doing. Reflection and pursuit are what take you from a shallow understanding to a deep, confident conviction.

The Bottom Line: If I don't perceive, I’ll misunderstand. If I don't have prudence, I’ll misstep. And if I avoid the enigmas, I’ll stay shallow. We were built for more than that.

Call to Action

I am challenging myself and you to step out in a bigger way this season. Here is how you can connect and take the next step:

  • Book Me to Speak: I’ve been challenged to open up my calendar for you. If you need me to come and speak at your conference, workshop, or church, reach out. I want to help you build your teams, your volunteer crews, your welcome centers, and your businesses.

Welcome to Build for Confidence, the podcast where Kingdom Builders rebuild identity, sharpen clarity, and lead with conviction. I am your host, Coach Paul Ibarra, and every week we're cutting through the noise to help you stop second-guessing, start deciding, and build with confidence right where God has placed you. So listen, drop a review, drop a comment, hit that like, subscribe, all the things, and let's get started. I wanted to go deeper this morning. I wanted to go deeper this month in those things of God that He's called me to, to tap into, to help, to instruct, to help build people as well. And so when I started reading it, matter of fact, we're gonna read Proverbs chapter one, verse one through seven. And it says, the beginning of knowledge, the Proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel, to know wisdom and instruction, to perceive, we're gonna land there in a minute, the words of understanding, to receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, judgment, and equity, to give prudence. That's the second word we're gonna look at. To the young man, knowledge and discretion. A wise man will hear and increase learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel. To understand a proverb and an enigma, the words of the wise and their riddles. Verse 7 says, The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. So when I started looking at that, I started like, okay, what are these words and what do they mean to perceive? Right? What does it really mean? The word prudence, what is enigma really mean? And that's where we're gonna go today. Because this is where I believe God has taken not only me, but God has taken you as well. Because the reason is because God wants us to have more of Him and to really truly understand. So when I looked at it, I'm like, okay, what does perceive mean? In the Hebrew, it's bin, B-I-Y-N, and it means to discern, distinguish, and understand deeply. So when we look at this, to know wisdom and understanding, to discern, distinguish, and understand deeply, to separate truth from distraction, to grasp meaning beneath the surface, and to recognize what's really being said. Does that make it clearer for you? And why are we talking about this on the Built for Confidence podcast? Because the confidence of knowing God's word and really truly understanding, even just breaking down a few verses will change your life versus just looking at the word perceive, like, okay, that that means to understand in a different way. Because that's how I used to look at it. To perceive something was my own understanding. No, it's to discern, distinguish, and understand deeply, to separate my own truth, my own distraction from God's truth. When we look at this, perception is not just hearing, it's rightly understanding. Because here's the thing: most people don't miss the truth because it's hidden. We miss it because we don't slow down to discern it. We don't slow down to chew on it. We don't slow down to meditate on that word. Now, I'm not talking about sitting and letting your mind go free. And oh no, I'm talking about discerning, like really meditate on God's word, meditate on Holy Spirit, allowing Holy Spirit to lead you into the places that He wants you to be. Now, what does that do? It filters the information, right? It makes it clearer, it sharpens your awareness. And that's what causes you to ask those questions as well. What is really being said here? And that's what I was thinking about this morning. Like, what is really being said? Is it just instruction so we can have principles for life? It's really going deeper, saying, okay, what am I missing or told me or commanded, whatever, right? Nudged me to go deeper into this area. So we have to really look at that. And I hope I'm breaking this down properly for you to understand. Now we're gonna go on over to prudence, to give prudence to the simple. Prudence is really in the Hebrew or ma, which means shrewdness, wise strategy, or foresight. Now, not in a negative connotation, but it's the ability to think ahead. So for my business owners that are out there and you're just doing business in a in a simple-mindedness, like, well, this is fun, this is cool, everything's working, seems to be fine. But if we don't think ahead, then that's where we're gonna lose traction and we're gonna fade out because fire only burns so long. The other thing is the wisdom to avoid traps, giving prudence to the simple, the young man, knowledge and discretion, giving prudence, giving the ability to understand discernment, making decisions that protect your future. Have you ever been in a situation, if you're anything like me, you've made a decision, a permanent decision from a temporary circumstance? That's not good. Sometimes you have to step away from everything to say, okay, here's where I'm at. But what is this decision right now going to create for my future? What is this decision of me doing this podcast for 30 days going to do for my future? It may gain me more followers, it may gain me more clients. I don't know. However, if I do this to protect my future, I'm not only going deeper, but I'm taking others deeper with me. And it will cause a person to be like, what else does he have? How else can he serve me in the place that I'm at? And that's where I'm at. How can I serve God's people even more deeper this season? So prudence is really wisdom applied with foresight. It's not just knowing what's right, it's choosing what leads to the right outcome. It guides your decisions, it prevents unnecessary mistakes, it builds intentional living. What I love about it is prevents unnecessary mistakes. If you keep doing the same thing over and over and over and expect different results, guess what? That's the definition of insanity. So there's gotta be something that breaks that. And that's where prudence steps in to the minds of the simple. Now, these are the questions that activate it. Where does this lead me? Where are you taking me, Lord? And how do I prepare? What will this cost me later? You may do a purchase and like, okay, what's this gonna cost me down the line? Is this of value? And is this aligned with who I am becoming? Does it align with everything that God has called you to do? And that's where we want to go today. As we head on over to the end of verse six, to understand a proverb and an enigma. An enigma, I never knew what that was. I just always read over it. But what it is in Hebrew is Hada, which is a riddle, hidden truth, or deep saying. So what's the breakdown? Truth that must be uncovered. Right now, there's so many things out there in the world that seem like riddles. We're looking for truth to be uncovered. Wisdom that requires effort to understand. You see, when you receive something, it's not just okay, I get it. No, it requires the effort to say, okay, I hear what you're saying, but what's the deeper meaning? In conversation, that happens a lot where people are just talking and you're just like, mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm. And then you go, and then 30 minutes later, you're like, what did they tell me to do? You have to have the effort to understand. You have to put in the work to understand. The same with the word of God. It's the insight that comes to reflection and pursuit. When you're you are pursuing God, guess what? He is going to bless that. He's going to help you reflect and see everything that he wants for your life. And that's going to develop depth. That's going to strengthen your discernment. And that trains your mind for complexity. It trains your mind to not only hear a thing and not only do a thing, but understand why you're doing a thing. Now, there are times and seasons when God will tell you to do something with no explanation. And that's okay. Just go, Abram. Just go, Joshua. Be strong and courageous. However, there's those conversations that you're having with people that you want to understand the complexity of what they're saying. These this is the area of your learning and discerning and guiding and directing is what is the deeper meaning here? What is this revealing about life or leadership? What is it doing for my business? What principle is hidden inside this? So when you put it all together to perceive, you learn to see correctly. Perception. When you're prudence, you begin to choose correctly. You see, you can see something correctly, but then you have to make a decision on the choices that's before you. So you begin to choose correctly for what you see. And the enigma is to grow to understand deeply. So all these three areas of your life are gonna tie together to create your confidence that's built on the inside, because you are built for confidence. Here's the bottom line, and here's the truth in it all. If you don't perceive, you'll misunderstand. If you don't have prudence, you will misstep. And if you avoid the enigmas, the riddles, the deeper meanings, you're going to stay shallow. And I know that's not who you want to be. Why? Because you are not only tuning into this podcast, but you made a decision to go deeper. This is where we're gonna land today. I've been challenged this month by a very good friend of mine. You heard her on the podcast, April Nova Scipio. She said, your call to action needs to be for you to call people to get you to speak at their conference, at their workshop, in their church, wherever that is. So that's my call to action today. That's gonna be my call to action for the next 30 days.
